CHAPTER 2: ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH PROFESSION IN MALAYSIAN

Assalamualaikum,today i want to talk about history proffesions in malaysian and their roles. Sorry if have bad grammars, at least i want to try. So yeah let's talk about it.
  

First i want to talk about history of the proffesions:


     Environmental health profession is very synonym with public health discipline in Malaysia.Its was started in 1870 when Sanitary Board and Municipal Corporation was established by British ruling. During that time, enforcement is the priority without neglecting other aspect such building, solid waste disposal, sewerage system, food hygiene, infectious control and water supply. In 1921 until 1958, Environmental health profession were trained at King Edward College of Medicine, Singapore.
However, the training was moved to the newly independent Malaya in 1958 and conducted at the Health Inspectors Training Institute at Young Road, Kuala Lumpur.
At that time, graduates will be awarded a Diploma Royal Society of Health for the Promotion of Health for Health Inspector (RSH) (London) .The training was then shifted to the Public Health Institute, Bangsar Road, Kuala Lumpur in 1967. Nowadays, Health Inspector training has been officially conducted at Allied Health Science College which is known as Kolej Sains Kesihatan Bersekutu (under MOH) and other public and private universities in Malaysia. Nowadays The Ministry of Health recommended that Diploma holders be known as Assistant Environmental Health Officers. 

     Assistant Environmental Health Officer (AEHO) U29 is a front liner in maintaining sustainable public health, responsible for delivering a health education and promotion to the community, and enforce of certain act or regulation in order to preserve human health. They are involved in a variety of activities such as inspecting food facilities,investigating public health nuisances ,investigating and controlling infectious disease cases,promoting safe and healthy lifestyle. 
  
      The proffesions in Malaysian devided by two. It is Public sector and Private sector.

Public Sector

 Ministry of Health ,Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government , Local Authorities ,Institutions of Higher Learning, State, District Health Office ,Cooperation of Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing

Private Sector

  Environmental Consultant ,Food Industries , Health Care Industries ,Environment Organization (Private Bodies / International) ,Pest Control Companies , Occupational Safety and Health

         Next,the works placement of duty do to the public such as waste collection service and  disposal,Maintenance/services of drainage and sewerage system,Environmental cleanliness,Road  service/maintenance, traffic control, flesh flood control and Provide public toilet, Issue of license  (food stall, restaurant, factories etc.),Welfare house for old folks,park, child care center, clinics under  health programs, ambulance and kenderaan jenazah,Provide slaughter house, crematorium
 
    There are 4 types of local goverment which is
  1. 1. City - City Hall (Majlis Bandaraya) or City Council (Dewan Bandaraya)(e.g. DBKL)
  2. Municipality - Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran) (e.g. MPAJ) 
  3. Rural area - District Council (Majlis Daerah) (e.g. MDKL) 
  4.  Special and modified local authority - Corporation, Development Board, Development Authority or simply Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan (e.g. Putrajaya Corporation)

 
     In this chapter work as  General Duties & Responsibilities of Assistant Environmental Health Officer they have major roles and specific roles which is ,conducting primary prevention approaches or strategies towards the population in order to provide conducive environment and healthy people.
Protect and improve the health and quality of life of individuals and communities and to reduce health inequalities and the specific roles is conduct activities to prevent entry of disease into the state or country.They also conduct enforcement and prosecution of public health legislation,carry out general activities, including investigating public nuisance, solid waste disposal, drinking water quality control etc. 
 
 Unit involved in roles:

  3. Vector Borne Disease Control
  4.  Food Safety and Quality 
  5. Drinking Water Quality Control 
  6.  Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation 
  7. Occupational and Environmental Health 
  8.  International Health 
  9. Health Education
     These works must have criterias because these works have risks . The criterias we must have integrity,accountability,innovative ,quality,excellent,collegiality. The compulsory criteria should have in these jobs is  effective communication, teamwork,leadership ,critical thinking ,decision making,steel heart ,can work with tense environment ,like to work outdoor and work just like detective.
 
      Lastly,these jobs working in condition involve considerable fieldwork, and some travel frequently. Also, work long and often irregular hours,and they also may be exposed to psychosocial and physical hazards and may be performed in unpleasant, stressful, and dangerous working conditions
